Fern V. Pedersen

Fern V. Pedersen, age 99, of Glidden passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Rick Hamilton of Grace Baptist Church in Glidden officiating. Music for the service will be by Mary Ross. Casket bearers will be Dale Crooks, Jeff Biehn, Zachery Biehn, John Marks, Tom Marks, and Tim Marks. Honorary casket bearers will be Tony Vanderheiden and John Pedersen. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will resume at the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 8, 1917 in Glidden, IA, she was the daughter of John and Ada (Wright) Marks. Fern grew up in the Glidden-Scranton-Guthrie Center areas and attended country school. Fern received her certification for commercial design from the Minneapolis Art Institute in 1947. She was married to Nate Pedersen in January of 1943 in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home in Glidden where they raised their three children: Vicky, Pat, and Ken. Fern was a homemaker and was very involved in all her children’s activities. She was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church and she was also a member of the Carroll Writer’s Club. Family life and good parenting were very important to Fern and Nate. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Fern enjoyed writing poetry, children’s books, jingles, and song lyrics. She actually wrote a song called “Sweet Memories of You” which she had copy written and will be sung at her funeral. Fern loved to watch the Antique Road Show on Iowa Public Television and she enjoyed watching professional hockey following the Minnesota Wild and the Detroit Redwings. Fern is survived by her children: Vicky Pedersen of Ft. Worth, TX, Pat Pedersen of Ames, and Ken Pedersen (Deb) of Glidden; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Leona Philo of Wyoming, and June Pedersen of Florida; several nieces, nephews and many good friends. Fern was preceded in death by her parents John and Ada Marks; her mother and father-in-law Hans and Bessie Pedersen; four sisters: Myrtle Higgins, Ellen Dillinger, Hazel Crooks, and Dorothy Sharon; two brothers Warren and Sidney Marks; and her husband Nate Pedersen in 2004.
