Faye June (Dare) Hogan, age 100, of Fonda, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda with Fr. Dennis Sefcik as Celebrant. Lectors for the Mass will be her sons Doug and Dick Hogan. Music for the Mass will be by Randy Schmidt as organist and Sandy Wells as Cantor. Gift bearers will be her daughters Connie Brown and Linda Murphy. Eucharistic Ministers will be Linda Murphy and Dan Hogan. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Faye’s name to be used for a later designation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Carroll and online condolences may be left for Faye’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on November 18, 1916 in Ponca, NE, Faye was the daughter of Coen and Effie (Mendenhall) Dare. She grew up on her family’s farm near Ponca and graduated from New Castle High School. Following high school she went to California with her cousin Joy Smith where she stayed with her aunt and uncle and worked in a dime store and as a nanny. She then moved back to Sioux City where she met her future husband Joseph “Bud” Hogan at the Rigadoon. They were married on August 19, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove by Fr. P.M. Mattes. The couple lived in Sioux City where Bud worked as a barber for two years and then moved to Varina where they farmed and raised their family. The Hogan’s moved to Fonda in 1969 where Bud continued to work as a barber and Faye was a homemaker. They were active members of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was active with the Holy Family Society. Faye enjoyed baking and cooking. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls, sweet pickles, and her pot roast. She cherished family dinners and gatherings. Faye is survived by her six children and families: Richard “Dick” Hogan (Pat) of Carroll, Douglas Hogan (Peggy) of Bonita Springs, FL, Linda Murphy of Huxley, IA, Connie Brown (Dick) of Pella, IA, Dan Hogan (Alicia) of Omaha, NE, and Tim Hogan (Kim Subbert) of Omaha; nineteen grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and one on the way!!; and many nieces and nephews. Faye was preceded in death by her parents Coen and Effie Dare; her mother and father-in-law Mary and Ed Hogan; her husband Joseph “Bud” Hogan in 2009; two sisters: Rachel Saxon and Virginia Barnes; a brother Joe at age 10; a daughter-in-law Mary Hogan; a son-in-law Donald Murphy and a son Tom in infancy; and two grandchildren in infancy: Scott Hogan and Miriah Murphy.
