Evelyn was born on January 9, 1935 in Lake City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Arvel and Augusta (Frank) Jacobs. She grew up helping out on the family farm and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles with her brothers. Evelyn went to Auburn High School where she met the love of her life, Monte. While in high school, Evelyn was a varsity basketball player where she was known for her “Hook Shot”. After High School, Evelyn went to college in Omaha and received her Business Degree.
After saying “I do” on June 5, 1955, Monte and Evelyn moved to their farm in Lidderdale to start their family. Together they raised four children: Randy, Doug, Pam, and Candi, along with the many animals. They farmed for 32 years. Not only did Evelyn help run the farm and the house, she also was a secretary for Farm Bureau for 32 years. On Saturday nights, Monte and Evelyn loved going out on the town dancing or playing cards. She passed down her love for card games to her kids and grandkids, and many fond memories were made playing International Rummy.
Evelyn was always a huge supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She showed her love by selflessly giving her time to her family and being present in their lives. Evelyn had eight grandchildren, all of whom she treasured dearly. When each of the grandchildren were born, she was always there to lend a helping hand when the baby came home. Evelyn would make meals, clean, and do anything to help make life with a newborn a little easier for the new mom. Many of her summers were spent with family in Okoboji, and Evelyn was always the first to play with the grandchildren. She would play basketball and show each of them her signature “Hook Shot”. She really enjoyed playing cards with anybody willing. Family was everything to Evelyn, and she was so thankful for the love of her devoted husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Evelyn went by many names, but her favorites were Kitten, Mom, Mimi, or Great Mimi. We love and miss you!
Evelyn was preceded in death by her son Randy; her brothers Jake and Glenis; parents, Arvel and Augusta, and her husband Monte Hook. Finding life without her dear Monte so hard, she joined him in heaven exactly one month (to the day) after his passing. She is survived by her children and their families: Doug (Karen) Hook of Carroll, IA; Pam Hook of Fort Dodge, IA; Candi (Bill) Rotert of Waterloo, NE; eight grandchildren: Josh Kruthoff, Nikki (Kenton) Ewing, Dustin Hook, Travis Hook, Nathan Hook, Kyle (Travis Verbeck) Rotert, Madison (Rishabh Ajmera) Hook, Dannielle Hook; four great-grandchildren Tisyn, Karsyn, Paisley, and Jackson; and her brother, Pete. Evelyn is also survived by Randy’s wife, Becky Kruthoff.
