Evelyn Maxine Gregerson, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at her home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Organist for the service will be Sally Patten and soloist will be Skip Raridon. Casket bearers will Jay Savery, Jeff Scharfenkamp, Cale Scharfenkamp, Gary Savery, Jim Butler, and Mike Blome. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Born on October 2, 1919 at Denison, Iowa, she was the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Baer) Savery. She grew up in Denison where she graduated from high school in 1938. Following high school she worked in the Candy Kitchen and then the Stafford Dry Cleaners. She was married to Richard Gregerson on October 20, 1940. The couple moved to Carroll where Dick was manager of the Master Breeder’s Chicken Hatchery. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, she was a Sunday School teacher, held office in the Eastern Star, was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and a Girl Scout Camp Director, helped with the Rainbow Girls and Demolay Boys. Evelyn worked at Carroll High School in the cafeteria and Gillette Greenhouse and Flower Shop. She then went to work for JC Penny in the children’s department where she worked for 11 years retiring in 1975. That same year she donated her kidney to her daughter Judith in Indianapolis. She spent a great deal of time with her daughter while her husband was working and traveling for Chick Master.
Evelyn is survived by three brothers: George Savery and his wife Donna of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Jim Savery and his wife Jerri of Carroll, and Richard Savery and his wife Mary of Pella, Iowa; a son-in-law Hugo Loeffler and his wife Judith of Mooresville, Indiana; a granddaughter Teresa Loeffler of Evansville, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, her son Richard “Dickie”, and her daughter Judith.
