Erma Augusta Tunink, age 95, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:30 P.M. on Monday, January 30, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Anthony Pick as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the Church beginning at 11:30 A.M. on Monday until the time of service. Lector for the mass will be Andrea Tunink. Organist for the Mass will be Mary Ross. Casket bearers will be Cory Tunink, Lyle Tunink Jr., Chad Tunink, Scott Tunink, Christopher Tunink, and Courtney Tunink. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
Born on July 19, 1915 at Templeton, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Frances (Sibble) Stangl. She grew up in Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School. After school she worked as a housekeeper for two years. She was married to Bernard Edward Tunink on June 17, 1935 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. The couple farmed for several years in the Templeton – Willey area before moving to Glidden. While living in Glidden she worked for Mr. D’s Restaurant for 24 years. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden. In her spare time Erma enjoyed flowers, scrapbooking, baking, visiting with her neighbors, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are two sons: Lyle Tunink and his wife Janice of Perry and Gary Tunink and his wife Betty of Linn Grove, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Carol Tunink of Grand Junction, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Gregory Lappe of Atlantic, Iowa; and three sisters-in-law Alice Stangl of Manning, Iowa, Monica Tunink of Guthrie Center, Iowa, and Joan Tunink of Odebolt, Iowa.
Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, two sons Howard and Bernard Jr, brothers: William Stangl in infancy and Don Stangl, and sisters: Alita Bauer, Ione Lappe, Gladys Lappe.
