Eric Anthony, son of George and Marilyn (Meiners) Johnston, was born August 17, 1986, at Carroll, Iowa. He grew up near Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 2004. Eric then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, where he earned his Associates Degree in Agriculture Production Technology. He then returned home to continue farming at Johnston Family Farms near Coon Rapids.
Eric was a member of Annunciation Church where he was baptized and confirmed. At the age of 12, Eric was the Iowa Games Skeet gold medal winner. During high school, he played football and was active in FFA. Eric was very likeable and never had an enemy. He had an infectious smile and could visit with anybody. His hobbies and interests include: hunting, fishing, trapping, golf, target shooting, and hanging out with his friends. Eric has always considered himself a farmer.
On Sunday, April 26, 2009, Eric died in an automobile accident near Coon Rapids, Iowa. He was 22 years old.
Eric is survived by his parents George and Marilyn Johnston of Coon Rapids; a brother Jacob Johnston and his fiancée Kellanie Sires of Coon Rapids; his grandparents: Irene Johnston of Coon Rapids and Tony and Colleen Meiners of Carroll; two aunts: Sharon Wiese and husband Merlyn of Granger and Donna Sheehy and husband Pat of Omaha; two uncles: Rick Meiners and wife Pat of Des Moines and Alan Meiners and wife Tami of Dedham; cousins: Ben Wiese; Mike and Sarah Sheehy; Doug Meiners; and Grant, Will and Lydia Meiners; and by other relatives and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Ernest Johnston.
