Emmett Roger Lahr

Emmett Roger Lahr, age 81, of rural Glidden, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at his home near Glidden.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating.  Music for the service will be by Ellen Severin and Nancy Davis.  Casket bearers will be grandsons: Matt Brincks, Mitchell Lahr, Grant Lahr, Caleb Lahr, and sons-in-law: Lon Brincks and Mark Peters. Honorary casket bearers will be granddaughters: Sarah Brincks, Maddi Peters, Karli Holtkamp, Julia Brincks, and Caitlin Lahr.   Graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, IA.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Thursday.  The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M.

In lieu of flowers and memorials, it was Emmett’s wish for people to “pay it forward” with random acts of kindness.

Emmett was born on September 12, 1940 in Galland’s Grove, IA, and he was the son of Charles and Julia (Fouts) Lahr.  He grew up on his family’s farm near Buck Grove, IA, and graduated from Dow City-Arion High School in 1958 where he excelled in track and football.  He attended UNO in Omaha and a trade school for auto upholstery.  He married his high school sweetheart Janice Kay Keairnes on June 18, 1961 at the Methodist Church in Dow City.  The couple lived in Omaha for a short time before moving to Carroll where they raised their four children and he owned and operated Lahr Auto Trim.  Jan passed away on October 31, 2004.  Emmett was later married to Mary Anne Reinart on September 23, 2006 at Holy Family Church in Lidderdale.  Emmett and Mary Anne moved to their farm north of Glidden in 2007 which he called “Lahradise”.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll where he served on the board of trustees and several other committees.  He served on the Carroll Community School Board for several years and the Citizens United to Save the Valley.  Emmett loved everything cars from restoring and collecting classic cars to auto racing. He enjoyed horses, collecting antiques, and spending time with his family.

Emmett is survived by his wife Mary Anne of rural Glidden; his children and their families: daughter Sherri Brincks (Lon) of Overland Park, KS, daughter Kristi Peters (Mark) of Breda, son Scott Lahr (Cheryl) of Manilla, and daughter Jenni Lahr of Overland Park, KS; nine grandchildren: Sarah Brincks, Matt Brincks (Kelsey), Maddi Peters, Karli Holtkamp (Derek), Mitchell Lahr (fiancée ShelbyLynn Baker), Grant Lahr, Caleb Lahr, Julia Brincks, and Caitlin Lahr; two great-grandchildren: Adalynn and Emmett;  four sisters: Dorothy McQuaid of Dunlap, Donna Oster of Carroll, Sharon Kay DeLance of Venice, FL, and Connie Yopp of Creston; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

Emmett was preceded in death by his wife Janice; his parents Charles and Julia Lahr; a sister Grace Head; three brothers: Lyle, Dean, and Bill; and a sister Doris in infancy.
