Ellamae Schafer, age 87, of Glidden passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Born on April 29, 1920 on the family farm north of Glidden she was the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Kuebler) Rabb. She was a lifelong resident of Glidden where she attended school. She was married to Walter E. Schafer on December 14, 1940 at the United Methodist Church in Glidden by Pastor Barnes. She worked for Franklin Manufacturing in Jefferson for many years. After her retirement she enjoyed babysitting Clay and Leah Morris and Lindsay Sturm. Ellamae was a member of the United Methodist Church in Glidden. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, embroidering, babysitting, and her home.
Surviving are her two children: Judith Ann Gibson and her special friend Ron Riesberg of Carroll, and Jerry Melvin Schafer and his wife Linda of Ft. Dodge; four grandchildren: Troy Gibson and his wife Shelli, Tara Gibson and her special friend Butch Weber, Michelle Lawton and her husband David, and Renee Schafer; nine great grandchildren: Jordan Walker, Taylor Walker, Chelsi Gibson, Bayli Gibson, Sawyer Gibson, Craig Lawton, Connor Lawton, Brynn Lawton, and Patrick Lawton; and a sister-in-law Hilda Finley of Glidden. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1973, three brothers: Clarence, Harold, and Orville; six sisters: Edna Osbourne, Mabel Peters, Gladys Gerber, Pearl Bruggeman, Florence Cruz, and Hazel Keeler; her mother and father–in-law John and Sophie Schafer; and a son-in-law Denis Gibson.
Funeral services for Ellamae will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Glidden with Rev. Chad Jennings officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Doris Bentley and the soloist will be Mr. Larry Dowd singing How Great Thou Art and the Lord's Prayer. Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:00 P.M. on Sunday for visitation until the time of service. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
