Ella Katherine Sonksen, age 91, of Carroll and formerly of Manning passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Carroll Health Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 23, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. David Anthony and Rev. Brian Licht officiating. Organist for the service will be Janet Hoff. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Anthony Leo, Larry Muhlbauer, Ron Muhlbauer, Russ Stribe, Gene Muhlbauer, Vern Langbein, Allen Fara, and Mike Fara. Honorary casket bearers will be Dwight Fiscus, Dale Quandt, Elmer Wiederin, Earl Singsank, John Stewart, Bud Mosman, Mark Gray and Karl Albertsen. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery. Born on November 14, 1917 at Lincoln Township, Iowa, she was the daughter of William G. and Katie (Paulsen) Musfeldt. She grew up in Audubon county and attended Lincoln Center School. She was married to Henry M. Sonksen on January 4, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. She has been a resident of the Carroll Health Center for the past three years. Ella was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In her spare time she enjoyed caneing, china painting, sewing, cooking, and helping her husband on the farm. Surviving are her husband Henry M. Sonksen of Carroll; a daughter Marilyn D. Lohmeier of Des Moines; a sister Doris Warren and her husband Lawrence of Trenton, Missouri; a granddaughter Nancy Allison and her husband Jeff of Stillwell, Kansas; a granddaughter Lori Leo and her husband John of Des Moines, Iowa; and six great grandchildren: Anthony, Adriano, Alessandra, Annamaria, Jenifer, and Sarah. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Henry, William, and Arnold, and a sister Elsie Puck.
