Elizabeth Shaw, age 93, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Gowrie Care Center in Gowrie, Iowa. Born on October 3, 1914 at Carroll County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lyle and Hazel (Mavady) Day. She grew up in Glidden where she graduated from Glidden High School. She was married to Scott Vermillion on May 1, 1934 at the Presbyterian Church parsonage in Glidden. He passed away in 1967. She was later married to John Shaw on October 1, 1980 in Glidden and he passed away in 1989. Elizabeth worked at the Glidden Graphic from 1967 – 1980. She was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church while living in Glidden and she was later a member of the Gowrie United Methodist Church while living in Gowrie. She lived at the Gowrie Care Center since October of 2002. She enjoyed her pets and ballroom dancing. Surviving are a daughter Charla Grote of Farnhamville, Iowa; six grandchildren: Matt McDonald of Scranton, Kristin Venteicher and her husband Gene of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, David McDonald and his wife Kim of Ankeny, LeighAnn Gibbs and her husband Joe of Boone, Iowa, Kendra McConnell and her husband John of Jefferson, Iowa, and Hallie Rice and her husband Jim of Scranton; thirteen great grandchildren; a step-sister Shirley Mossman of Glidden; and her special friend Richard Carlon of Gowrie. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Scott Vermillion, her husband John Shaw, and her daughter Deborah Burkett in 1985. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gowrie United Methodist Church with Rev. Jane Shepherd officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Dillavou Cemetery near north of Ralston, Iowa.
