Elizabeth A. Durbin

Elizabeth “Betty” Agnes Durbin, age 81, of Bayard passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019 at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Bob Rogers officiating.  Music for the service will be by Alice Drake.  Casket bearers will be Mike Sparks, Matthew Sparks, Mitch Kempf, Chuck Gaylord, Shane Sievers, and Carl Andrews.  Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids a from  5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Betty was born on November 6, 1937 in Ramona, SD, and was the daughter of Luther and Myrtle (Thomas) Fortner.  She grew up in Marcus and Cherokee, IA.  Following high school she moved to Carroll, IA, where she worked for HR Cleaners and Tony’s Restaurant.  She was married to Gary “Pete” Durbin on December 21, 1957.  The couple made their home in Bagley, IA, where they raised their children and Betty was a homemaker.  In 2001 Betty and Pete moved to Bayard.  They were members of the Church of Christ in Bayard where Betty was active with ladies aide.  She was also a member of Guthrie County Pork Producers as Pete served as President.  The Durbin’s were active in 4-H and they camped at the Guthrie County Fair for many years.  Betty enjoyed fishing, needle work, quilting, baking, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her husband Gary “Pete” Durbin of Bayard; her children: son Tim Durbin (Deb) of Bradenton, FL, daughter Sholeen Sparks (Mike) of Cherokee, daughter Joeleen Durbin of Panora, and son Calvin Durbin of Minnesota; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren;  two sisters: Lorna Johns of Great Falls, MT, and Sharon Tiernan (William) of Pasadena, MD; two sisters-in-law: Carolyn and Deanna; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Myrtle Fortner; her step-father Ray Scheffers; and a brother James Fortner.
