Elizabeth “Betty” M. Mahan, age 94, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll with Fr. Shinoj Jose as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will be by Kate Cuddy and the St. Lawrence Resurrection Choir. Lector for the Mass will be Ava Cossolotto. Eucharistic Ministers will be Darwin Bugg, Sandy Bugg, and Shirley Molitor. Gift Bearers will be Parker Radmann and Jimmy Kjellberg. Casket bearers will be Trent Bowman, Brent Kjellberg, Casey Radmann, Todd Kranz, Kevin Bugg, Matt Cossolotto, and Frans Laubscher. Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Monday. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Born on December 23, 1924, in Templeton, IA, she was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Pille) Kisgen. Betty grew up in Templeton and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. She was married to Roy Mahan on March 8, 1943, at the Sacred Heart Rectory in Templeton by Fr. Leo Lenz. The couple made their home in Carroll for a few years before moving to Coon Rapids where Betty worked as a bookkeeper for the Garst Store and Niles Chevrolet. While living in Coon Rapids, Betty was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church. After Roy’s passing in 1979, Betty moved to Carroll and became a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She enjoyed watching television, especially, Hallmark movies, playing cards and dominos, puzzles, golfing, and spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by her two children and their families: son Robert Mahan (Janet) of Ames, daughter Becky Bowman (David) of Carroll; a daughter-in-law Dianne Mahan of Pilot Mound, IA; seven grandchildren: Lindsay Radmann (Casey) of Chaska MN, Melissa Kranz (Todd) of Chaska MN, Allison Bugg (Kevin) of Waukee IA, Ashley Laubscher (Frans) of Lynnville IA; Dayon Kjellberg (Brent) of Carroll, Andria Cossolotto (Matt) of Lisbon IA, and Trent Bowman (Ellen) of Mount Vernon IA; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters Jeanne Neu (Earl) of Turlock CA and Mary Nichols of Sun City, AZ.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy in 1979, and her son Joe in 2010, and eleven brothers and sisters.
