Eleanor Luverne, daughter of Earl and Grace Ethel (Hobbs) Cretsinger, was born March 30, 1915, on the family farm south of Coon Rapids, Iowa. She grew up south of Coon Rapids and attended country school near her home until the eighth grade. Eleanor then went to school in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1932. Eleanor then attended Normal training in Atlantic through Iowa State Teachers College. She later attained a Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University through night and weekend classes. On June 17, 1936, Eleanor was united in marriage with Lawrence Turner in Des Moines. Three children were born to this union. The family farmed various farms in Carroll County and lived in Minnesota for a short time before returning and settling near Coon Rapids. After the marriage was dissolved, Eleanor taught at Evergreen school, Bagley and Coon Rapids, retiring in 1980. On November 8, 1980, Eleanor was married to Clare Yager. The couple shared their residence between his farm at Viola Center and her home in Coon Rapids. They also enjoyed wintering at McAllen, Texas. After Clare died January 21, 1996, Eleanor remained in her home in Coon Rapids and continued to go south for the winter. Eleanor was a member of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, baking pies and reading. She cherished the time spent visiting with her grandchildren and family. On Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Eleanor died at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa, at the age of ninety-seven. Eleanor is survived by: her children--Janice O’Neil of Northbrook, Illinois, Larry Turner and wife Mary of Atlantic, and Mary Fulton of Des Moines; six grandchildren--Jim O’Neil and wife Paula, Tom O’Neil and wife Beth, Pete Turner and friend Linda Lopez, Stuart Turner and wife Janelle, Jay Fulton and wife Diane Kuhn, and Katie Fulton; seven great-grandchildren--Mackenzie, Aubrey, Molly, Erin, Jack, Nora and Myles; a sister, Geneva Schreck of Coon Rapids, and a brother Kenneth Cretsinger of Washington state. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters--Arlene Vetterick and Helen Long--and a brother, Gerald, in infancy.
