Eleanor Gehlson, age 65, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson of Holy Spirit Catholic Church officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be Mark George, Kent George, Karl George, Jan George, William Frost, and Richard Dodds.
Eleanor L. Gehlsen, age 65, of Carroll, Iowa died at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll on September 14,2010. She was born Feb 19, 1945 at Cherokee, Iowa and was the daughter of Arthur and O’Delia (Thorman) Kohn. Her father died when she was very young and she was raised by a step father Aloysius George. As a young girl she attended schools in and graduated from Cherokee High School. She then attended North West College in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she received her certificate as a Lab Technician. She was married to Lesly Gehlsen on October 22, 1967 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Rev. John Thomas as celebrant. Following her marriage she worked as a Lab Technician at St. Anthony Hospital. She operated a home day care center for a time, worked with her husband doing rehab work on older homes, and for the last seven years she was a Weight Watchers leader. Eleanor was a real role model for those trying to live a healthy life style. In her spare time she enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales, collecting bells, gardening, caring for her flowers exercising, learning new things on the computer and cooking healthy foods. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish and was very active in the Weight Watchers Program.
Surviving are her husband Lesly of Carroll, two daughters: Dawn Marie Blanchard and her husband Jim of Odebolt, Iowa, and Heather Anne Orcutt and her husband Brad of Sac City, Iowa; the following grandchildren: Melodie Beeber, Stephanie Beeber, Amanda Nelson, Emily Quail, Faith Orcutt, Sarah Marie Orutt and Lucas Allan Orcutt. Also surviving are two sisters: Joyce Woltman, and Paula Dodds and her husband Richard both of Sioux City, Iowa; four brothers: Mark George and his wife Kim of Cherokee, Iowa, Kent George and his wife Denise of Walerloo, Iowa, Karl George of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jan George and his wife Doris of Sioux City, Iowa; and a brother-in-law Jerry Frost of Gettysburg , South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Carol Frost and a sister Mary in infancy.
