Elaine Schmeiser

Elaine “Smize” M. Schmeiser, age 65, of Glidden passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 27, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Organist for the service will be Becky Miller and soloist will be McKenzie Podey. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be John Head, Troy Hofer, Todd Jansonius, Bill VanZuiden, Chris Thompson, and James Woolsey. Born on August 13, 1945 at Carroll she was the daughter of Otmar and Tena (Berns) Wenck. She was a lifelong resident of Glidden where she graduated from high school in 1963. Elaine worked at General Electric in Carroll for many years and later for Iowa Ag for several years before retiring. She was married to Jack Schmeiser on April 18, 1964 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. Smize was avid bowler and she enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are husband Jack of Glidden; two daughters: Sara Boell and her husband Jody of Milo, IA, and Amy Nichols and her husband Dan of Greensboro, NC; two sons: Ernie Schmeiser and his wife LaJean of Glidden, IA, Lincoln Schmeiser and his wife Staci of Elkhart, IA; thirteen grandchildren; her twin brother Duane Wenck and his wife Kathy of Lidderdale, IA; a sister Sharon Subbert and her husband Jerry of Scranton, IA; two brothers-in-law: Jerome Schmeiser and his wife Patti of Michigan and David Schmeiser and his wife Mary Kay of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ronald Wenck, and a sister Shirley Nepper.
