Edward A. Walkup, age 90, of Glidden passed away at Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll on Thursday, January 14, 2016. Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Glidden, with Pastor Brian Camara officiating. Friends may call at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 3:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time service. Music for the service will be by Judy Reever as pianist, Marlys Conner as organist, and Mark and Marlys Conner, Tim Reever, Wes Reever, and Whitney Reever will be vocalists. Casket bearers will be Amy Beerends, Todd Walkup, Steve Stonehocker, Kari Cooling, A.J. Holding, Tom Walkup, and Jeff Walkup. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ed’s great-grandchildren: Lane, C.J., and Lydia Beerends; Emma, Alexander and Isobel Stonehocker; Drew, Jack, and Ella Cooling; Haley, Addison and Ava Walkup; Raelee Holding, and Dillion Lohman. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed’s name and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born in 1925 in York, NE, he was the son of Glenn Reed and Clara Emma (Andresen) Walkup. The family moved to Glidden when Ed was 17. He graduated from Glidden-Ralston High School. Ed married Doris Lucille Kemmish on February 9, 1947. From this union, children Joyce, David, and Paul formed the family. Ed was a hired farm hand and carpenter and purchased his own farm south of Glidden where he continued farming until he retired in 2013. Doris passed away in May of 1986. He loved helping his son and grandson on the farm after retirement. He married Mary Ellen Stoolman Douglas in June of 1987. They enjoyed traveling and visited six of the seven continents. Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden, served on several church boards, was Superintendent of Sunday School, and a longtime member of the Mariners. He also served on the Glidden Mutual Insurance Board, and the Farmer’s Cooperative of Glidden for several years. He was known as the “funeral singer” as he was requested to sing at numerous funerals because of his wonderful tenor voice. Faith, family and farming were his lifelong passion. Survivors include children: Joyce Stonehocker of Newton, David (Janet) Walkup of Osceola, Paul (Jenni) Walkup of Glidden, sister Maxine Tryon of Glidden; grandchildren: include Amy (Mike) Stonehocker Beerends, Steve (Kate) Stonehocker, Todd (Christi) Walkup, Kari (Wes) Walkup Cooling, AJ (Jeffrey)Walkup Holding, Tom (Ashley) Walkup, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Walkup; great-grandchildren: Lane, C.J., and Lydia Beerends; Emma, Alexander and Isobel Stonehocker; Drew, Jack, and Ella Cooling; Haley, Addison and Ava Walkup; Raelee Holding, and Dillion Lohman. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, by his wives Doris and Mary, brothers Harold and Wilbur, sisters Dorothy and Grace, and son-in-law Charlie Stonehocker.
