Edward J. DeMey, age 87, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Pastor Mark Peterson of Gentiva Hospice officating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday. Casket bearers will be Corey Brincks, Matthew DeMey, Jason DeMey, Dylan DeMey, Christopher Loehr, Ryan DeMey, Robert DeMey, Kyle DeMey, Amanda Rezac, and Jennifer Loehr. Honorary casket bearers will be George and Dixie Crouse and Kenny and Shari Crouse. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.
Born on May 18, 1927 in Denison, Ed was the son of Henry Paul and Adelia Ann (Meggers) DeMey. He grew up in Denison where he attended school. Ed went to work for Crouse Cartage Company in Denison at age 18. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 and served two years during the Korean War. He was stationed in Korea and drove a radar truck. Following his military service Ed returned to Denison and continued to work for Crouse Cartage for a total of 42 years retiring in 1987. He was married to Norma Jean Lamaak on October 24, 1953 in Elk Point, SD. The couple lived in several locations while Ed worked with Crouse Cartage opening terminals in Harlan, Ft. Dodge, Ottumwa, and Atlantic. They moved to Carroll in 1962 where they raised their five children. Ed was a member of the Carroll American Legion, the VFW and the Teamsters Union. He was also a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Ed is survived by his wife Norma Jean of Carroll; three daughters: Karen Loehr and her husband Michael of Carroll, Brenda Brincks and her husband Tom of Glidden, and Carmen DeMey of Carroll; two sons: Steven DeMey of Omaha and Mark DeMey and his wife Jane of Carroll; ten grandchildren: Matthew DeMey and his wife Jodi of Ankeny, Ryan DeMey and his wife Crystal of Chicago, Jason, Robert, and Kyle DeMey all of Omaha, Christopher Loehr of Springfield, MO, Jennifer Loehr of Carroll, Amanda Rezac and her husband Jim of Glidden, Corey Brincks and his wife Cassidy of Glidden, and Dylan DeMey of Carroll; six great granddaughters: Avery, Brinley, Kaitlyn, Emma, Aaliyah and Kaylee; two brothers: Hank DeMey and his wife Donna of Vail and Jack DeMey and his wife Janice of Denison; two sisters: Ellen Brink and her husband Bill of Dow City and Sharon Cue and her husband Dick of Dunlap; a sister-in-law Mary Ann Murr and her husband Jerry of Corning, MO; two brothers-in-law: Lloyd Lamaak of Pueblo, CO and Kenneth Lamaak and his wife Peggy of Sioux City; the following in-laws: Ann Lamaak of Sioux City, Gwen DeMey of Dow City, Patricia DeMey of Denison, Tom Malone of Avoca, and Marilyn DeMey of Missouri; several nieces, nephews, cousins and countless good friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Robert, Donald and Delmore, and four sisters: Marcella Millard, Rosie Sprang, Betty Patchin, and Loretta Malone.
