Edna L. Wenck

Edna L. Wenck, age 95, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff. Congregational hymns will be “Thine Forever”, “Abide With Me”, and “Sweet Hour of Prayer”. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Brian Wenck, Todd Wenck, Troy Wenck, Travis Wilharm, and Joshua Wenck, and great grandson Jacob Meyer. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Born on November 28, 1915 on her family’s farm north east of Carroll she was the daughter of Henry and Ella (Warnke) Boell. Edna is a lifelong resident of Carroll County and attended country school as a girl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Edna was married to Clarence J. Wenck on June 2, 1937. The couple farmed and raised their family north west of Lidderdale and were active members of Immanuel Lutheran Church until they retired from farming and moved to Carroll in 1964. Edna then worked for St. Anthony Hospital in the Cafeteria until 1977. She continued to volunteer for New Hope Village and RSVP. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Rachel Circle and was an avid quilter. Edna enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking, needlework, sewing, gardening, beading and she especially loved spending time with her family. Surviving are two sons: Norman Wenck and his wife Mollie of Loretto, Minnesota, and David Wenck and his wife Joyce of Hudson, Wisconsin; a daughter Nancy Warnke and her husband Ronald of Raymond, Iowa; ten grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; a sister Florence Fricke of Carroll; a sister-in-law Mildred Helmkamp of Carroll; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, four brothers: Elmer, Paul, and Floyd Boell, and George in infancy.
