Duane Keith Carroll, age 54, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Rick Hamilton of Grace Baptist Church in Glidden officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until the time of service. Born on October 29, 1956 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Earl and Lorraine (Karstens) Carroll. He grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lake City High School in 1975. Following high school he attended Ryder Technical School in Des Moines and earned a degree in Auto Mechanics. In April of 1975 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Chanute, Illinois, and served two and a half years as a special vehicle mechanic with the 3345 Trans Squadron. In 1977 he met Jean Rice while serving in the Air Force. They moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1978 and were married on August 22, 1980 at Carroll. Duane worked as a mechanic at Golf Course Turf in Carroll and became a conservation officer in 1980 for Swan Lake State Park where he worked until 1991. Duane loved working on small engines, woodworking, and he had a great love for the outdoors and fishing.
Surviving are his wife Jean of Glidden; two daughters: Anna Schleimer and her husband Jami of Exira, Iowa, Katie Carroll of Glidden; his mother Lorraine Madsen and her husband Merle of Camdenton, Missouri; two sisters: Pam Meyer of Lake City and Alice Schrad and her husband Gary of Minnesota; a brother Randy Wenck of Lake City; three sisters-in-law: Joni Kleinert and her husband Kevin of St. Anne, Illinois, Kathy Langellier of Milford, Illinois, and Pat Rivas and her husband Darrin of Georgia; a brother-in-law Rick Rice of Kankakee, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Duane was preceded in death by his father Earl Carroll and a brother Steve Carroll.
