Doyle V. Gymer, age 80, of Coon Rapids passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be Doyle’s grandsons: Justin Gymer, Gabriel Gymer, Garrett Gymer, Logan Aldinger, and Jacob Tunning. Honorary casket bearers will be Doyle’s granddaughters: Haylee Gymer, Lindsay Aldinger, Marissa Tunning, Madison Tuning, and Heidee Gymer. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Sunday evening. The casket will be moved to the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on November 12, 1936 in Carroll, IA, Doyle was the son of Beryl and Gurtha (Brown) Gymer. He grew up on his family’s farm north of Coon Rapids in the Star Community and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1955. Following his schooling, Doyle began his career in auto body repair, in Coon Rapids, at Dobson Body Shop. He then moved to Des Moines where he worked for Clark Auto Body and then Bob Brown Chevrolet. He was married to Marcia Putnam on May 19, 1962 in Des Moines. The couple lived in Des Moines until April of 1963 when they moved to Glidden where they owned and operated Doyle’s Auto Sales and Body Service. Following a devastating shop fire, Doyle went to work for Niles Chevrolet in Coon Rapids. In 1969, he started Doyle’s Body Shop in downtown Coon Rapids in a rented building and built his own shop in 1972. Doyle retired in 2003. He was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church. Doyle was a skilled welder and made hog roasters and outdoor cookers which were used for family and church functions. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family, he was an avid gardener, and he loved his faithful dog Taz. Doyle is survived by his wife Marcia Gymer of 54 years of Coon Rapids; his children: Kimberly Aldinger (Justin) of Iowa Falls, Jonathan Gymer (Tina) of Riverside, CA, Gwendolyn Tunning (Mark) of Halbur, and Gregory Gymer (Teresa) of Ankeny; ten grandchildren: Haylee Gymer, Justin Gymer, Gabriel Gymer, Garrett Gymer, Lindsay Aldinger, Marissa Tunning, Logan Aldinger, Jacob Tunning, Madison Tunning, and Heidee Gymer; a sister Donna Wagner (Paul Nicademus) of Grimes; two brothers: Gary Gymer (Diane) of Battle Creek, MI, and Gordon Gymer (Connie) of Coon Rapids; a sister-in-law Bernadine Taylor of Indianola; and several nieces and nephews. Doyle was preceded in death by parents Beryl and Gurtha Gymer; his mother and father-in-law Leslie and Velda Putnam; and two children in infancy.
