Douglas Allen Zeller, age 69, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed peacefully on July 3, 2025 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA, surrounded by family.
A private family funeral service was held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Carroll First with Pastor Dave Hagen officiating and music by his sister-in-law Jeannene Schnell.
A public graveside service will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Crawford Cemetery in Crawford, NE with Doug’s brother-in-law David Wasserburger officiating.

Doug was born on May 6, 1956 in Orange, California to John David Satterfield and Mary Miller Satterfield, the youngest of four sons
Doug attended Crawford Public schools in Crawford Nebraska graduating in 1974. He went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Alliance, NE. He married Alison Barkley and to this union Heidi Lynn Zeller and Nathan Christopher Zeller were born. He went on to complete his Bachelors in Elementary Education at Chadron State College. He then married LaWayne Wasserburger on December 13, 1991, and to this union Rachel Grace Zeller and Dylan Henry Zeller were born.
Doug completed his Masters in Elementary Administration from Chadron State College. He taught in elementary schools in Nebraska and was the high school principal in Wanblee, South Dakota. He then later wrote books about his experiences.
Doug retired with his wife to Coon Rapids, IA, to be closer to their youngest grandsons. Doug enjoyed the years in Coon Rapids. He also enjoyed playing drums and guitar in many different bands.
Doug is survived by his wife of 33 years LaWayne; daughters Rachel Zeller and Heidi Zeller; sons Dylan Zeller and Nathan (Amanda) Zeller; grandchildren Peyton (Kortney) Zeller, Abbi Zeller, Zachary Zeller, Owen Welch, Katelynn Cella, Kaiden Jenkins and Legend Jenkins; and a great-grandson Ryder Zeller. He is also survived by his brothers Danny Zeller and Jay Zeller.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother Mary Zeller; his father John David Satterfield; a brother Gary Satterfield; and a nephew Bryon Zeller.
