Dorothy Margaret Turner Miller, age 95, of Carroll and formerly of Dedham died at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll on July 1, 2011 where she has lived for the past four years.
Born on April 21, 1916 at Coon Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of Raymond and Zula (Patrick) Bell. Dorothy was married to Harold A. Turner on May 3, 1934 at the Methodist Church parsonage in Carroll. Mr. Turner passed away on June 23, 1969. The Turners farmed south of Carrollton for several years. During those years Dorothy was a member of the Dedham Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of WSCS. After moving to Carroll she worked at the Carroll Vet Clinic and Earl Mays. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading , especially Zane Gray and western books, watching westerns on TV, and spending time with her family. Dorothy was an excellent cook and was noted for her sour cream chocolate cake which she baked every day for her family.
Surviving are three sons: LeRoy Turner and his wife Linda of Glidden, Ronald Gary Turner and his wife Linda of Ralston, and John Turner of Glidden; two daughters: Jean Pottroff and her husband Donald of Glidden and Margaret Griffiths of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; two sisters, a brother-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friend Ernestine Lappe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, two sisters, a brother, a daughter-in-law and a daughter at birth, and a grandson Jeffrey Turner in 2009.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday July 5, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Interment will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery at Glidden. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the Church at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday for viewing until time of the service. Organist will be Mrs. Nancy Davis and Soloist will be Skip Raridon singing “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bears will be Robert Griffiths, Daniel Pottroff, Greg Platt, Randolph Turner, Kenny Jensen and Mark Werner. Honorary casket bearers will be Bill Turner, John Turner Jr. Jim Turner, Patricia Pedersen, Kimberly Platt, Diana Pottroff ,Felicia Johnson and Joni Halsema.
