Dorothy Fern (Blinn) Townsend passed away on April 6, 2007 at the age of 99 in Tucson, Arizona.
Born to George and Hattie Blinn on 25 January 1908 on the family farm south of Glidden, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State College in Home Economics and was a teacher in the Iowa School System. She was married on 8 April 1933 to Merton Clayton Townsend and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to Lake San Marcos, California in 1969 when her husband retired from Fruehauf Trailer Company. Her final years were spent in Tucson, Arizona where she moved to be near homes of her sons. She was an avid golfer, she played until her 90th year and continued to watch the game on television whenever she could until her death.
She is survived by her two sons: Merton Townsend and his wife Helen of Tucson, Arizona and Gary Townsend and his wife Suanne Boulder, Colorado; five grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by all of her nine brothers and sisters, and her husband.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 10 at 10:00 A.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. David Smith of Malvern, Arkansas officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Ellen Severin and soloist will be Mr. Carl Wilburn. Interment will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
