Dorothy Alvina Heuton, age 91, of Lake City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
Born on July 3, 1917 at Carroll County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Alfred and Emma (Berns) Subbert. She was baptized on July 29, 1917 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale by Pastor Schmidt. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran on March 29, 1931 by Pastor Hermann. She attended public and parochial schools in the area. She was married to Harold Heuton on March 31, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Hermann officiating. The couple farmed east of Lidderdale until 1982 when they retired and moved to Lake City. Dorothy was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City.
In her earlier years, Dorothy loved working outdoors on the farm, doing chores and helping with field work along with raising a big garden for her family. After retiring she loved to bake and cook. She always prepared wonderful meals for her family and sent them home with homemade cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies. She was a loving mother, always willing to help, and she was very proud of her family.
Surviving are a daughter Joyce Kaspersen and her husband LeRoy of Humboldt, Iowa; a daughter Genece Piper of Vinton, Iowa; a son Paul Heuton and his wife Luci of Glidden, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1997, her parents, her step mother, two sisters, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Erland Asmus officiating. Organist for the service will be Sylvia Streufers. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.
