Dorothy M. Andersen, age 87, of Coon Rapids passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Ben Ramirez officiating. Visitation will be from 5–7 P.M. on Friday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Laura Lee Ramirez. Casket bearers will be Aaron Kenyon, Brody Andersen, Charles Richardson, Lucas Richardson, Nathan Andersen, Joshua Andersen, Mason Lindaman, and Seth Lindaman. Honorary casket bearers will be Dorothy’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren. The Coon Rapids American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery south of Coon Rapids. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 31, 1928 in Richland Township, Carroll County, IA, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Gladys (Gymer) Davis. She grew up in the Carrollton area where she attended school as a girl. Her family moved to Coon Rapids when she was a freshman in high school, and she graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1945. Dorothy worked as a clerk for several stores in Coon Rapids following high school. She was married to Harvey “Tony” Andersen on November 20, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home in Audubon County where they farmed for several years before moving to Guthrie County in 1969. Dorothy and Harvey retired from farming in 1987 and moved to Coon Rapids in 2011. Dorothy worked at Garst and Thomas Seed Company sorting corn and she volunteered as a cook for the Congregate Meal Site for many years. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Coon Rapids where she held various offices. She was also a member of the Carrollton Heritage Club, Needle Club of Orange Township, Western Whirlers Square Dancing Club, CNO Group, Coon Rapids American Legion Auxiliary and the Iowa Savings Bank Heritage Club with whom they took many trips. Dorothy and Harvey loved to roller skate in their younger years and enjoyed playing Bingo and traveling the local Bingo circuit in later years. She also enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, cross stitching tea towels, baking, and making her famous homemade noodles, cookies, potato salad and baked beans. Dorothy was a proud member of the Coon Rapids Community and loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her children: Carol (Jim) Knobbe, Alan (Diane) Andersen, Susan (Dan) Richardson, Christine (Philip) Wernsmann all of Coon Rapids, Kent (Laura) Andersen of Webster City, IA, Lisa (Tim) Lindaman of Hubbard, IA, and Mark Andersen of Des Moines, IA; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Leah Cretsinger of Coralville; sister-in-law Mary Andersen of Coon Rapids; brother-in-law Donald Condiff of Park Rapids, MN; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey of 66 years, her daughter Sonya in 1954, a granddaughter Melinda Jo Richardson, a sister Mary Jane Condiff, and a brother Charles in infancy.
