Doris F. Sterns, age 84, of Carroll passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Organist for service will be Jan Hoff and the congregation will sing. Casket bearers will be Doris’ grandchildren. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences will be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on September 17, 1931 in Ft. Dodge, IA she was the daughter of Louis and Pauline (Thompson) Becker. Doris grew up in Ft. Dodge where she attended school and worked at Sears. She was married to Robert Sterns on April 8, 1956 in Ft. Dodge. Bob and Doris made their home in Carroll where they raised their family. Doris was a homemaker and Bob taught at Carroll Community School. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Doris enjoyed tending to her flowers, camping, babysitting her grandchildren, and spending time with her family. Doris is survived by her three sons: Alan Sterns of Carroll, David Sterns (Sonya) of Carroll, and Dennis Sterns of Ames; daughter-in-law Michelle Sterns of Des Moines; six grandchildren: Amy Whitver (Jim) of Carroll, Amanda Sterns of Dedham, Amber Halbur (Cody) of Elkhart, Jessica Sterns (Mitchell Michel) of Ames, Alicia Sterns of Dedham, and Samuel Sterns of Ames; three great-grandchildren: Evan, Amia, and Mathias; two sisters: June Harvey of Grimes and Ann Marino (Anthony) of Ft. Dodge; a brother-in-law Richard Sterns of Ft. Dodge; a sister-in-law Judy Sterns of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2010, two sisters: Lois and Francis Becker, a grandson Donald Sterns; two brothers-in-law: Albert Harvey and Charles Sterns; two sisters-in-law: Beverly Sterns and Sharon Sterns, and a nephew Mitchell Sterns.
