Doris L. Hambleton

Doris L. Hambleton, age 91, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Algona Manor Care Center in Algona, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Terry Plocher officiating.  Casket bearers will be Doris’ grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Those in attendance at Doris’ services are asked to abide by Covid-19 social distancing guidelines and facemasks are required.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday at the Perry Cemetery in Perry, IA.

Doris was born November 21, 1928 in Perry, IA. She grew up on a farm outside of Perry with seven other siblings. She was the daughter of Harold and Anna (Scott) Crannell. Doris graduated from Perry High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to J.W. “Bud” Hambleton on April 23, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Perry, IA. Bud was a manager for Fareway Grocery Store and the couple ultimately settled in Carroll.

Doris was very active in the Methodist Church and Eastern Star for several years. She also volunteered at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in the Gift Shop with the Auxiliary and with Lifeline. She was an avid bowler and played on a bowling league. Her and Bud loved to travel, taking many trips with their motorhome to Minnesota fishing or anywhere else. But most of all she was an amazing grandmother who loved all seven of her grandchildren very much. She never missed an event whether it be a band concert, chorus concert, or ball game. No matter what she was always there.

Doris is survived by daughter Karen Hambleton of Reno, NV; her grandchildren: Isaac (Angela) Broich of Ankeny, IA, Taran (Gerry) Strange of Nixa MO, Justin (Chelsea) Broich of Iowa City, IA, Krystal (Jamie) Stanford of Bondurant, IA, Stacy (Rick) Skibinski of Monterey, CA, Stephanie (Kregg) Schafer of West Bend, IA, and Joel Kanne of Lake View IA; her great-grandchildren: Clayton, Caden, Carsen, Chase, Maliah, Brayden, Kenyan, Lakyn, Camille, Samuel, Noah and Gabe; three brothers: Raymond Crannell of Adel, IA, Larry (Linda) Crannell of Adel, IA; and Roger Crannell of Perry, IA; two sisters: Jo Ann (Keith) Noack of Marshalltown, IA, and Donna Acklin of Grundy Center, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, brother Don Crannell, sister Helen Spencer, her husband Bud in 1997, and her daughter Kathy in 2009.
