Doris Mae Chute, age 88, of Carroll passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden with Rev. Keith Hodge officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 8 P.M. where the family will greet friends. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will Joan Bundt, pianist will be Susan Moore, and vocalists will be Mike and Susan Moore. Burial will be Sheridan Methodist Cemetery near Grinnell at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday. Born on May 31, 1921 at Oskaloosa, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Melvia (Warstler) Parker. She grew up in Searsboro, Iowa where she graduated from high school in 1939. Doris taught country school for 12 years after high school. She then attended UNI in Cedar Falls where she earned her BA in Elementary Education in 1952. Following this she taught elementary school in several locations before attending the University of South Dakota where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education. She was married to Harold Chute on July 8, 1953 at Grinnell, Iowa. Doris moved to Carroll in 1986 from Hoisington, Kansas to be closer to her family. She enjoyed reading, going to flex and stretch class at the Rec Center, church activities, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden. Surviving are her daughter Wilma Orlano and her husband Bill of Carroll; a brother Don Parker and his wife Fran of Malcom, Iowa; a sister Ruth Gross of Grinnell; two grandchildren Maria Hoey and her husband Brian of Los Angeles, California; and Daniel Orlano of Carroll; and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1971, and a son Paul in 1990.
