Donna Lee Wagner, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Iowa passed away at home on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 succumbing to pulmonary fibrosis after bravely surpassing each update to her life expectancy. She carried on with courage and without complaint despite the ever-increasing limitations being thankful for the conversations, video chats and visits with friends, family and many close relatives. The only frustrations occurred when her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Wagner, II, couldn’t read her mind fast enough, “something you are supposed to be able to do with 57 years of marriage”, or when she could no longer have all your favorite food ready for you.
A public graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden, IA, with Rev. Rick Hamilton officiating.
Those in attendance at Donna’s graveside service are asked to abide by Covid-19 social distancing guidelines and facemasks are recommended.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke’s Foundation, 855 A Ave. NE, Suite 105, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com or mailed to Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home, 307 Idaho Street, Glidden, IA 51443.
Donna was born on June 28, 1942 in Fairmont, Minnesota, and was the daughter of LeRoy and Edith (Cadwell) Weible. With younger brother Paul Weible added to the family, they moved to Glidden where she graduated one year ahead of Bob. Bob and Donna were united in marriage on March 2, 1963 at the Glidden Methodist Church and had two children, Rob and Tyler.
Donna thoroughly enjoyed a career at Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Cedar Rapids where she made lasting friendships in an environment that she described as interesting, fun and challenging. She spent many evenings proctoring students who were taking ISU classes via the “latest technology”, and she loved every aspect of her many years with ISU Extension.
Donna was kind, cheerful, loving and always interested in hearing about what others were doing regardless of whether it was a grandchild, a relative or a new doctor or nurse she just met. She relished playing a significant role with the birth of each grandchild, treasured all the time she could spend with them in their younger years and was extremely proud of each of them.
Donna is survived by her husband Bob of Mount Vernon; two sons: Rob (Sue) of Hampstead, NC, and Tyler (Peggy) of Walford, IA; four grandchildren: Spencer of Washington D.C., Jackson of Leland, NC, Mackenzie of St. Louis, MO and Amber of Walford IA; a brother Paul Weible (Vicki) of Marion, IA; and many other loving relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her in-laws Robert & Virginia Wagner.
