Donna Lee Sorensen, age 84, of Coon Rapids passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at her home in Coon Rapids.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Pianist for the service will be Alice Drake and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be Kevin Bower, Kent Bower, Gary Bower, Dennis Bower, Jack Mozena, and Tom Annear. Burial will be in Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. Donna Lee (Bower) Sorensen was born on August 24, 1934 at her home, south of Bayard in Guthrie County to Ethel (Reid) and Warren Bower. She attended country schools in Carroll and Guthrie County before going to town school at 10 years old, graduating from Coon Rapids High School in 1952. On November 14, 1954 Donna was married to Don Sorensen at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. To this union, three children were born, Doug, Teri, and Jodi. After Don’s discharge from the Army, they made their home 7 ½ miles south of Coon Rapids in 1958. Donna was a loving mother and housewife and helped with all the details of farming also working at various part time jobs – Coon Rapids Seed Lab, sorting corn, detasseling foreman – later working at Thomas Rest Haven for 22 ½ years and Coon Rapids Pharmacy for 19 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Old Carrollton Heritage Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed raising their two daughters and watching them marry two great guys and later on watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Her hobbies included dancing, gardening, crocheting, and touring the rural countryside.
Survived by her husband of 64 years, Don Sorensen of Coon Rapids; her two daughters: Teri (Jeff) Ford of Jefferson and Jodi (Dave) Hoffman of Audubon; her grandchildren: Jennifer Oake s, James (Mindy) Ford, Joshua Ford, Chris Hoffman; her great-grandchildren: Lucas and Lauren Oakes, Tucker Ford, Spencer and Carter Semke; her two sisters: Juanita Shaffer of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Gloria Zabukover of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters-in-law: Patti Bower of Fort Dodge, Juan (Ed) Wheeler of Newton, Carla Sorensen of Lame Deer, Montana, as well as many nieces nephews and friends.
Preceded in death by parents Warren and Ethel Bower, infant son Douglas Duane, brothers Maurice, Richard (Jeannie), and Jerry, sisters Pauline (Wilbur) Herron, Phyllis (Bill) Mozena, Bernadine Anderson, mother and father-in-law Paul and Gwen Sorensen, brothers-in-law Jim Zabukover, Bob Sorensen, sisters-in-law Edna Mae (LeRoy) Madsen.
