Donna Platt

Donna J. Platt, age 80, of Glidden, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor David Loeschen officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Gayle Bushman. Vocalists will be Mark and Marlys Conner. Casket bearers will be Ben Platt, Brian Platt, Lee Schon, Alex Feilmeier, Mark Bushman, and David Bushman. Honorary casket bearers will be Ashley and Cassondra Platt. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on April 20, 1933 at Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl and Janette (Mosher) Bushman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. Donna was a lifelong resident of Glidden where she graduated from high school in 1950. She was married to Lowell Platt on June 10, 1951 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. The couple farmed in the Glidden area and Donna did secretarial work for Heisterkamp Furniture, Ferrell Gas, and Glidden Mutual Insurance Company. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden where she taught Sunday school and was active in the LWML. She was a member of the Goldenrod Club and the Birthday Club. Donna enjoyed crocheting, camping, picnicking, fishing, scrapbooking, getting together with her classmates (The Nifty Fifty Club), and spending time with her grandchildren. Donna is survived by two sons: Dick Platt and his wife Amy of Glidden and Gregg Platt and his wife Kimberly of Glidden; four grandchildren: Benjamin, Ashley, Cassondra, and Brian; a sister-in-law Delores Bentley of Glidden; and a sister-in-law LaRaine Bushman of Churdan; four nieces, and several cousins. Donna was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Janette Bushman, her husband Lowell in 2008, her mother and father-in-law Harry and Alvina Platt, a brother Kenneth Bushman, a brother brother-in-law Quint Bentley and a brother in infancy.
