Donna Kay Hedges

Donna “Becky” Kay Beckner Hedges, age 70, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Born on March 3, 1938 at Jefferson, Iowa, she was the daughter of E.R. “Scout” and Nadine (Anderson) Beckner. She grew up in Jefferson where she graduated from high school in 1956. She then attended North West Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. She was married to Kent W. Hedges Sr. on June 21, 1959 at Jefferson, Iowa. Becky was a gift buyer for Drug Town Stores for 17 years. She was a member of the Methodist Chruch and the VFW Auxiliary. Becky was a wonderful wife, a great mother, and a loving grandmother. Surviving are her husband Kent Hedges Sr. of Ankeny, Iowa; her mother Nadine Rudi of Iowa City, Iowa; a daughter Julie Letze and her husband Larry of Runnels, Iowa; a son Kent W. “Beau” Hedges Jr. of Hawaii; her mother-in-law Jean Hedges of Scranton; a son-in-law Howie Burrows; her step-mother Dorothy Beckner of Boone, Iowa; three grand children: Stacey, Stephanie, and Ashley; and three great grandchildren: Haley, Christopher, and Mackanzie; three half-sisters: Terri, Diane and Jeanie; a half-brother Martin; a step-grandson Matt Burrows of Ankeny, Iowa; a sister-in-law Jan Reever and her husband Richard of Fairfield, Iowa; a nephew Jason; and a niece Renee. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents, Grammy and Grampy Beckner who raised her, and her daughter Tracey Burrows. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 – 6 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Brent deSilva officiating. Visitation will resume on Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton at 12:00 P.M. until the time of service. Honorary casket bearers will be Connie Horn, Jane Howard, Paul Buchanan, Mitch O'Neel, Norm Lust, Dwite Silliman, Dick Mc Quillen, Jim Harvill, Harold Seaman, Paul Bartley, Randy Hedges, Mike Kulik, Larry Meredith, Russ Miller, Sid Vaner Ploeg, Dale Hoyt, Kent Mac Donald, Jeff Sempreni, Dr. Jerry Greenfield, Tom Capel, Marvin Cason. Interment of cremains will be held at a later date.
