Mrs. Donna Mae (Bauer) Anthony, age 59, of Des Moines, Iowa died on December 17, 2007 at Mercy Hospice in Des Moines following a brief illness. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 20, 2007 with Father James McCormick as celebrant. Lector for Mass will be Bev Schroeder, gift bearers will be Kristin Bauer Nelson, Stephanie Bauer, and Jenny Harper. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 4PM on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 PM . The casket will be moved to the Church at 8:30 AM on Thursday for viewing until time of the Mass. A memorial Fund in Memory of Donna has been established and memorials may be left at the funeral home or the Church. Casket bearers for Donna Anthony are Kevin Poen, John Bauer, Brian Brink, Cory Nelson, John Stougard, Jim Cornelius. Honorary casket bearers will be United States Senator Tom Harkin and Bruce Upchurch. Donna was born in Carroll on September l, 1948 to LaVerne B. and Mabel L.(Cornelius) Bauer. She lived most of her life in the Des Moines, area. Donna worked for United States Senator Tom Harkin’s Des Moines office. She filled a variety of positions while on Senator Harkins staff. She enjoyed being a casework supervisor and providing constituent services. She especially enjoyed working with law enforcement, domestic violence and child support issues, both in casework and policy areas. She received the Key to the City of Des Moines and a proclamation. She received the Crime Fighters service Award from the Des Moines Police Dept and an award from the Iowa Coalition against Domestic Violence for her dedication to ending violence against women and their children. The Des Moines Police Chief also acknowledged the dedication of a display case in the Des Moines Police Historical Museum for Donna”s commitment to the law enforcement community. In November 2007 Donna was honored by the Iowa Coalition against Domestic Violence for her commitment. Donna was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Des Moines and has served on the Jackson PTA. She attended catholic Schools in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1966. Surviving are her husband Dick of Des Moines, Iowa; her father LaVerne B. Bauer of Carroll, Iowa; three daughters: Kelly Fisher and her husband Jerry of Indianola, Iowa, Holly Taylor and her husband Brain of Olathe, Kansas, and Heidi Sharp and her husband Brant of Des Moines, Iowa; step children: Tina Anthony of Des Moines and Troy Anthony of Des Moines; a brother Ronald Bauer and his wife Deb of Urbandale, and sisters in-law Pat(Hall) Bauer of Omaha and Cory(Bauer) Brinker and her husband Steve of Carroll, and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Mabel Bauer in 2002 and her brothers Randy Bauer in 1990 and LaVerne J Bauer in 1991.
