Don was born on March 3, 1938 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Bernard and Claire (Monahan) Wallace. He grew up in Churdan and graduated from Churdan High School in 1956. He farmed with his father and brother following high school. In his youth, Don played town baseball in Churdan. Don was married to Joleen Tigges on January 31, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey. The couple made their home on a farm west of Churdan where they farmed and raised their children. Don worked for Rain and Hail Insurance Company as a crop insurance adjuster up until his death for the past 30 years. He served on the Greene County Fair Board and he was active with his kids’ and grandkids’ 4-H projects and athletic events. His daily routines connected him with family and the community and brought him joy. You could find Don driving out to the farm to check cows, having morning coffee with the guys, afternoon stops in Glidden for a pop, or an ice cream cone at the Dairy Mart, and especially supporting the Iowa State Cyclones.
Don is survived by his children and their families: son Brad Wallace (Diane) of Jefferson, daughter Annette Vogel (Ron) of Lohrville, son Rich Wallace (Amy) of Carroll, son Chris Wallace (Jen) of Scranton, and daughter Amy Parcher (Brad) of Slater; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother David Wallace of Coon Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Claire Wallace and a sister-in-law Marlene Wallace.
