Donald Dee Jones, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin, pianist will be Nancy Davis, and soloist will be Skip Raridon. Casket bearers will be Samuel P. Jones, Benjamin L. Jones, Peter D. Semla, Scott C. Hofstetter, Michael D. Jones, and Landon E. Woodroof. Honorary casket bearers will be Dick Watson, Jim Knott, Ted Meiners, Vic Meiners, Bob Ware, and Norm Hutcheson. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on November 27, 1932 at Pilger, Stanton County, Nebraska, he was the son of Boyd and Helen (Carson) Jones. He grew up in Pilger and his family moved to the Big Thompson Canyon, Colorado his junior year in high school. Don graduated from Loveland High School in 1950. He then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska for two years before transferring to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he earned his Pharmacy degree. He was the President of Rho Chi honorary and Sigma Xi while attending the University of Nebraska. He was married to Joan “Jody” Reifschneider on August 22, 1953 at St. Paul Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska by Rev. Dr. Alva Clark. The couple lived in Lincoln for two years before Don enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years stationed at White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. The family moved to Carroll in 1958 where Don was employed by the Center Pharmacy which he later purchased. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, the Iowa Pharmacy Association, the Carroll Rotary Club, and the Carroll Gun Club. He served as President of the Carroll Community School Board for two terms. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching football, and camping and spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife Joan “Jody” Jones of Carroll; his father Boyd Jones of Sun City, Arizona; four daughters: Carolyn Jones of Iowa City, Iowa, Laurie Vasquez of Chandler, Arizona, Susan Semla and her husband Todd of Evanston, Illinois, and Elizabeth Jones of Carroll; a son Philip Jones and his wife Patricia of Eagan, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers: Leland Jones and his wife Valerie of Kalispell, Montana, and Larry Jones and his wife Beverly of Sun City Grande, Arizona; a cousin Kathy Larson and her husband Joe of Potter, Nebraska; and two sisters-in-law: Marcia Hofstetter and her husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ellen Montville and her husband Richard of Middlebury, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his mother.
