Donald H. Hannasch, age 86, of Maple River, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel with Fr. Mark Stoll as Celebrant. Lector for the Mass will be Sister LuAnn Hannasch. Gift bearers will be Don’s grandchildren: Katie and Scott Goodwin and Carl and John Christiansen. Eucharistic Ministers will be Denny Schleisman and Cindy Day Casket bearers will be Don’s nephews: Eddie Mauro, Jim Mauro, Mark Mauro, Dan Mauro, Doug Hannasch, Craig Schleisman, and Steve Schleisman. Burial will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery in Maple River where military honors will be conducted by the Carroll American Legion. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. led by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. Visitation will resume at the funeral home from 9 – 10 A.M. on Thursday. Born on June 29, 1931 on a farm west of Roselle, IA, Don was the son of Edward and Anna (Wuebker) Hannasch. He attended Holy Angels Catholic School in Roselle as a boy and his family moved into Carroll in 1937 where he attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School. Don graduated from Carroll High School in 1950. Following high school, Don started a 60 year career with Farner-Bocken Company. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served two years as a radio operator with the 7th Infantry in Korea. Following military service he returned to Carroll and continued to work for Farner-Bocken. As a young bachelor in Carroll, Don enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, supporting Kuemper Athletics, and following the activities of his 15 nieces and nephews. Don was married to Helen (Loew) Tigges on June 12, 1982 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Maple River by Fr. Richard Birdsall. Don and Helen made their home in Maple River and Don became a father to Helen’s two daughters and their families. Don and Helen traveled extensively and loved to socialize with their many good friends. Don was a lifelong member of the Carroll American Legion and the Carroll Knights of Columbus. Don is survived by his wife Helen Hannasch of 35 years of Maple River; two daughters Geri Goodwin (Rocky) of Omaha, NE, and Jane Christiansen (Scot) of Edgewood, IA; four grandchildren: Katie and Scott Goodwin and Carl and John Christiansen; a brother Duane Hannasch (Anita) of Carroll; a sister Lorene Mauro (Don) of Des Moines; a brother-in-law Denny Schleisman (Norma) of Carroll; four sisters-in-law: Esther Pieper of Vail, Ruth Powers of St. Joseph, MO, Betty Neppl (Leon) of Pacific Junction, IA, and Phyllis Luft of Vail; a brother-in-law Bob Loew of North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Don was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Anna Hannasch and a sister Joann Schleisman.
