Donald E. Grundmeier

Donald Emil Grundmeier, age 84, of Arcadia passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Regency Park in Carroll.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating.  Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose.  Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery with military honors by the Westside American Legion.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M.  Additional visitation will be held at Zion Lutheran Church from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Friday.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Born on June 27, 1935 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Otto and Mayme (Kaspersen) Grundmeier.  He grew up on the family farm south of Westside and he graduated from Westside High School in 1953.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served until 1956 attaining the rank of Sergeant.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned back to the farm to work with his parents.  He was married to Dorothy Hammer on May 3, 1958 at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.  Don and Dorothy raised their family on the farm and were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.  Don was a member of the Westside American Legion and he served as the Carroll County Soil Commissioner for many years.  He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing cards, and all things to do with farming.

Don is survived by his children and their families:  son Allen Grundmeier of Robbinsdale, MN, daughter Lori Grundmeier of Arcadia, and Kurt Grundmeier (Roxane) of Bloomington, MN; two grandchildren: Brady Grundmeier (Krista) of Chaska, MN, and Stephanie Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; a great-granddaughter June and one on the way!; a sister-in-law Beverly Hammer of Boone, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2005; his parents Otto and Mayme Grundmeier; his mother and father-in-law: Ludwig and Hilda Hammer; and his sister Mary Anne Musfeldt (David).
