Donald V. Adams

Donald Vincent Adams, age 90, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

At Donald’s request, no services will be held. The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll assisted the family with arrangements and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.

Donald was born on June 17, 1933 in Michigan Valley, KS, and was the son of Frank and Ruby (Walker) Adams. He attended rural school near Michigan Valley and graduated from Michigan Valley High School with the Class of 1953. In 1954, he enlisted in the United States Army and during his tour of duty he served in Korea until he was honorably discharged in 1956.

On April 9, 1960 he was united in marriage to Shirley Ramshaw in Vinita, OK. They were blessed with two sons, Mark, and David. They lived in Onawa, IA for a few years before making their home in Whiting, IA. He was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers for 42 years before retiring in 2001. In 2008, they moved to Carroll and Shirley passed on April 7, 2020. Donald was a former member of the Whiting American Legion. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing. Donald and Shirley loved to travel the United States and visited all 50 states and cherished the winters in Hawaii for 18 years.

Donald is survived by his sons: Mark (Deb) Adams of Glidden, IA, David (Kari) Adams of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren: Justin Adams of Rockwell City, IA, Megan (Eric) Murphy of Albia, IA, Samantha and significant other Curtis Meier both of Scottsdale, AZ, Maile Adams and Elie Adams both of Lynchburg, VA; great grandson, Callen Murphy of Albia, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Adams; parents; and his sisters: Phyllis Fanning, Naomi Gingrich, and Toni Walburn.
