Doloris Ione Garnett passed away on January 3, 2008, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton, Iowa. The visitation will be at United Methodist Church in Scranton from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday January 6. Funeral Services will be at United Methodist Church in Scranton at 10:30 am Monday January 7. Burial will follow at the Scranton Township Cemetry. A lunch will be served by the UMW at the Church following burial. She was born on July 8, 1931 at Carroll, Iowa. She was the born the first of twin daughters to Leon and Gladys (Ermeling) Morlan. She graduated from Scranton High School in 1949. She married Carl Garnett on August 1, 1951. They farmed in the Jefferson and Scranton area from 1954 to the present. They were married over 56 years. Surviving are her husband, Carl of Jefferson; six children: Stephen and his wife Janet of Princeville, IL; Roger and his wife Elaine of Jefferson; Glen and his wife Jane of Sibley; Joyce Poggensee and her husband Charlie of Harlan; Janet Cummings and her husband Joe of Jefferson; and David of Jefferson; two sisters: her twin Doris Alex of Riverdale, NE; Alice Shriver of Jefferson; one brother: Leon of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren: Matthew Garnett of Peoria, IL; Lisa Garnett of Orlando, FL; Candace Garnett, Amanda (Garnett) Alvarez, Cliff Garnett all of Steamboat Springs, CO; Mike Poggensee, Dan Poggensee, Tom Poggensee all of Harlan; Chris Cummings of Ankeny; Joy (Cummings) Perrett of Ames; Julie (Cummings) Baker of Jefferson; 6 great grandchildren: Camen Cummings; Zoie Cummings; Marek Cummings; Ava Perrett; Lucy Poggensee; and Taylor Powell; and 1 aunt: Nona Hermanson. She was preceded by her parents and one brother: Wayne Morlan. She was active in United Methodist Church in Scranton. She was an avid participant in the United Methodist Womens. She was instrumental in the card writing ministry and arranging funerary and other church meals. She was a long time member of the Friendly Club. She was a prolific letter writer sending letters to family, friends, and neighbors. She was renowned for her cooking and baking. Her goods were frequently sought after at bake sales and other events. She enjoyed gardening, long walks with her dog and mushroom hunting. The family gatherings she hosted were a source of joy to her and all her family. The six grandsons will be pallbearers. The 5 granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church in Scranton, Iowa.
