Dick Simons

Dick Simons, age 75, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at his home in Glidden. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Dennis Bailey of the First United Methodist Church in Carroll officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening. Casket bearers will be Rick Whitaker, Don Meiers, Ron Bunting, Dave Blackley, Mike Blackley, and Jeff Blackley. Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Simons, Greg Zacker, Phillip Zacker, Dennis Johnston, Erv Promes, and Kenny Owens. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Born on May 27, 1936 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of William and Emma Somons Juergens. He grew up in Glidden and graduated and graduated from Glidden High School. Following high school he worked for Andrew’s Roofing and later owned and operated Glidden Auto Sales for many years. He was married to Marsha Zacker on September 2, 1955 at LeGrand, Iowa. Dick enjoyed happy hour in his garage, watching NASCAR racing, and loved the many trips he took to Las Vegas. Dick is survived by his daughter Patti Simons of Boone; a brother-in-law Romayne Blackley of Glidden; a sister-law Ann Zacker of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marsha in 2008, a son Rick in 2002, two brothers: Doyle and Bob; and two sisters: Mildred Meese and Joy Spencer.
