Dianna Marie Miller

Dianna M. Miller, age 71, of West Des Moines passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A private graveside service was held with Rev. Jeff Keuning of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. Memorials may be left in Dianna’s name to the Zion Lutheran Church, 309 Marshall Street, Dexter, Iowa 50070; Blank Park Zoo, 7401 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50315; or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148. Born on December 9, 1945 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA, she was the daughter of Jack and Selma (Wurr) Kastle. Dianna was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. She was raised on the family farm near Lidderdale, where she enjoyed working outside with her father and cooking and baking inside with her mother. Dianna attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1964. Following high school, she attended Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa and worked as a beautician until her retirement in 2012. She loved all of her “hair clients” and stayed in touch with many of them after retirement. Dianna also worked part-time at K-Mart for 15 years and truly loved her “K-Mart family”. After her partner Dave passed in 2009, she moved to the acreage they had built for retirement. She was once again back to the farm. It was a lot of work, but she loved it. Dianna joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter which she enjoyed like her “growing up years” at Immanuel Lutheran Church because it was small and friendly. Dianna is survived by her special aunt and uncle, Phyllis (Wurr) and Vernon Drees; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Dianna was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents; brothers: Larry and David; and her partner of 22 years, Dave Stull.
