Diane Frances Gute, age 80, of Willey, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Journey Senior Services in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Willey. The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm. Music will be by Jane Heithoff and the St. Mary’s Choir. Lectors for the Mass will be Anna Gute and Christina Zajac. Gift bearers will be her sons: Richard, Ronald and Rusty. Eucharist minister will be Rusty Gute. Mass servers will be Tessa Gute and Sara Gute. Honorary casket bearers will be her sons: Rick, Ron, and Rusty. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Willey.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a rosary held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning from 9:30 A.M. until 10:15 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey.

Diane was born on February 28, 1945 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. She was the daughter of Leo and Hazel (Smid) Koenig. She attended school in Halbur and later Kuemper Catholic School graduating with the Class of 1963. On December 28, 1963 she was united in marriage to Jerome Gute at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. They were blessed with 3 sons: Rick, Ron, and Rusty. They lived a few places in the area before moving to the Gute family farm southeast of Carroll in 1974. They lived on the family farm until moving to Willey in 2009. She was employed with General Electric in Carroll for 23 years. She then worked for several different local businesses in Carroll County until she retired in 2020. Diane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey and was very active in the lady’s guild and made thousands of rosaries through the years. In her children’s younger years, she loved to play board games and card games with the boys. She loved sewing, quilting, crocheting and made many baby blankets for all her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Diane is survived by her husband Jerry Gute of Willey; sons: Rick Gute of Willey, Ron Gute (Deb) of Sioux Falls, SD, Rusty Gute (Sherry) of Boone; 10 grandchildren: Ron Barker, Laura Arp (Aaron), Alex Gute (Megan), Ben Gute, Luke Gute, Christina Zajac (Salvatore), Mitchel Gute, Anna Gute, Tessa Gute, and Sara Gute; 1 great-grandson R.J. Barker; brothers and sisters: Marilyn Heilman (Don), Linda Beyerink, Judy Huddleston, Sharon Fleece (Rick), Larry Koenig (Ernestine Washington), Mike Koenig (Linda), Randy Koenig (Barb), and Kris Riesberg (Denny); sister-in-law Sheryl Gute; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Diane is preceded in death by her granddaughter Michele Schirk; daughter-in-law Janet Gute; parents, Leo and Hazel Koenig; her parents-in-law, George and Rose Gute; infant brother Billy Koenig; brother Jim Koenig (Louise); brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Alfred Schroeder (Phyllis) and Lavern Gute; and several nieces and nephews.
