Deloris Jean Meyer, 84, of Carroll and formerly of Westside died Thursday, February 14th, 2013, at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 18, 2013 with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Geraldine Danker. Casket bearers will be Kevin Skadeland, Brian Meyer, Nicholas Janning, Robert Sanford, Nathan Sanderson, Melvin Wittmaack, and Robert Wittmaack. Honorary casket bearers will be Dale Meyer, Mark Meyer, Doug Haase, David Haase, Dan Haase, and Levi Johnson. Burial will be at the Westside Cemetery in Westside.
Deloris Jean Wittmaack, the daughter of William and Christine (Hadenfeldt) Wittmaack was born on a farm near Denison on March 4, 1928. As a child, she enjoyed helping her parents on their dairy farm and in delivering milk to residents in Denison. During her teenage years she worked in the family restaurant and as an usher at the Ritz Theater. Deloris attended Zion Lutheran School in Denison and graduated from Denison High School.
Deloris married Glen Elmer Meyer on November 16, 1947, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. They farmed south of Westside for many years where they raised their family. Glen and Deloris moved into Westside following their retirement from farming. They later moved to Westwood Knolls in Carroll in 2003 and four years after Glen’s death Deloris moved Sunset Knoll in Aurelia in 2011 where she resided there until her death.
Deloris enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, building and selling doll furniture, attending craft shows, cooking, sewing, and playing pinochle.
Deloris is survived by three daughters: Gail Meyer of Des Moines; Janet Janning and her husband Richard of Carroll; and Karen Skadeland and her husband Kim of Larrabee, Iowa; six grandchildren: Brian Meyer of Des Moines, Tami Sanderson and her husband Nathan of Ankeny, Tracy Sanford and her husband Robert of Alta, Iowa, Kevin Skadeland of Larrabee, Iowa, Nicholas Janning of Carroll, and Brenda Janning of Carroll; one great granddaughter Kaci Sanderson; two sisters-in-law: Helen Jean Haase of Denison and Norma Wittmaak of Lincoln, Nebraska; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen in 2007, her parents William and Christine Wittmaack, her sister Lucille Waldron, her brother Melvin Wittmaack, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
