Debbie was born on July 13, 1959 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Myron “Mike” and Beverly (Agre) Gerdes.

Debbie grew up in Worthington, MN. Her family moved to Glidden in her early teens where she graduated from Glidden Ralston High School in 1977. After attending college in Omaha, she returned to Carroll and worked at Stockert Shoes for several years. While living in Carroll, she met David Greteman. The two were married on June 14, 1980 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church by Fr. Roger Augustine. Through sickness and health, they celebrated 40 years together.

After the birth of her children, Debbie was a stay-at-home mom. While raising her children, she went back to college where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa two-plus-two program in 2005. She worked for the Kuemper Catholic School System teaching typing, computer skills, and library skills where her former students would fondly remember her for her soft-spoken kindness and encouragement.

Debbie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a Girl Scout troop leader, and she sang in the community choir. She enjoyed spending the summers at the family cabin in Minnesota, reading, and baking. She will be remembered for her warm smile and her willingness to bring dozens of her famous frosted sugar cookies to every family event.

In 2014, Debbie was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She fought a courageous battle, never giving up.
