Dean Lloyd, age 93, of Coon Rapids passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes, and vocalists will be Casey Radmann and Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be Casey Radmann, Todd Kranz, Kevin Bugg, Frans Laubscher, Gilbert Hodges, Jordan Stein, Sean Schmidt, Tom Lloyd, and Ryan Karp. Honorary casket bearers will be Jim Schaben, Adam Handlos, Bob Anderson, Don Sorensen, Ron Beyerink, Dan Richardson, Dick Hart, Ron Smith, and Marty and Rosemary Paulsen. Burial will be in the Old Carrollton Cemetery with military honors by the Coon Rapids American Legion.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday evening. The casket will be moved to the First United Methodist Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 10:15 A.M. Born on May 21, 1926, on his family’s farm near Carrollton in Carroll County, Iowa, he was the son of J. Ernie and L. Velma (Conner) Lloyd. Dean grew up on farms in the Carrollton area and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1943. Following high school, Dean enlisted in the United States Navy at age seventeen with the permission of his parents. He served as a Seabee and was stationed in Iwo Jima, Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Iowa and farmed with his father. Dean was married to Evelyn DeWild on June 8, 1950, at the American Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa. Dean and Evelyn made their home on the Lloyd family farm north of Coon Rapids where they raised their three children. Dean was a lifelong farmer and raised dairy cattle, beef cattle, hogs, and grain. He was a member of the Coon Rapids American Legion and the First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. Dean enjoyed playing cards, reading, hunting, fishing, taking trips to Minnesota, and spending time with his family.
Dean is survived by his wife Evelyn of 69 years of Coon Rapids; two daughters: Janet Mahan (Bob) of Ames, IA, Jinger Moore (Rick) of Kalispell, MT; a son Scott Lloyd (Melanie) St. Louis, MO; ten grandchildren: Lindsay Radmann (Casey) of Chaska, MN, Melissa Kranz (Todd) of Chaska, MN, Allison Bugg (Kevin) Waukee, IA, Ashley Laubscher (Frans) of Lynnville, IA, Ryan Karp of Kenosha, WI, Lauren Hodges (Gilbert) of Tomball, TX, Katie Stein (Jordan) of Las Vegas, Jordan Moore (Chance) Helena, MT, Emily Schmidt (Sean) of Fenton, MO, and Tom Lloyd of St. Louis, MO; sixteen great-grandchildren: Parker, Lily, Ellie, J.R., Scarlett, Zoey, Sawyer, Paisley, Ezra, Gabrielle, Gilbert, Brook, Benjamin, Asher, Calista, and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents John Ernest and Lena Velma Lloyd; his mother and father-in-law Albert and Henrietta DeWild; a brother Jack Lloyd and his wife Sandy.
