Leland “Dean” Jacobsen, age 75, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Pianist for the service will be Patty Patrick and soloist for the service will be Bob Reck. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery with military honors by the National Guard of Boone. Casket bearers will be George Johnston, Dave Wallace, Galen Breeser, Joe McCullough, Donald Gibson, Dean Gibson. Honorary casket bearers will be Lance Breeser, Chase Breeser, Hayes Breeser, Justin Jacobsen, T.J. Jacobsen, Dalton Jacobsen, Jacob Johnston, and the late Eric Johnston. Born on June 28, 1935 near Ralston, Iowa, he was the son of Ted and Edith (Ninemeier) Jacobsen. When Dean was two years old his family moved to Coon Rapids where he graduated from high school in 1953. Following high school Dean moved to Des Moines and worked for Ten Hagen Produce. In 1956 he met Marilyn Bishop and they were married on August 25, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church near Coon Rapids. In 1958 Dean enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Ralston and began farming. He farmed for twelve years and then worked for Farmland, General Electric, and Frigidaire. He retired in 2000 and moved to Scranton. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden. Dean enjoyed helping his nephew George Johnston farm and he loved deer hunting with Jeff, Galen, and his grandsons. Surviving are his wife Marilyn of Scranton; a daughter Angela Breeser and her fiancé Brett King of Norwalk; a son Jeff Jacobsen and his wife Deanna of Guthrie Center; six grandchildren: Lance, Chase, and Hayes Breeser, and their father Galen, and Justin, T.J., and Dalton Jacobsen; a nephew George Johnston and his wife Marilyn of Coon Rapids; and a grandnephew Jacob Johnston and his wife Kellanie of Coon Rapids. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Irene Johnston, and brothers: Lyle and LaVerne, and a grandnephew Eric Johnston.
