The son of William “Bill” and Madge (Loomis) Gibson, was born October 27, 1937 in Carroll, IA. He attended the Scranton Community School graduating with the High School Class of 1955. On February 10, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army for two years and was honorably discharged on February 9, 1965. He returned to Scranton to help his father and brothers on the family farm where they grew row crops and raised livestock.

On September 8, 1962, he was united in marriage to Linda Feilmeyer at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry, IA. They were blessed with seven children. Dean continued to farm with his son Mike, brother Chop, and nephew Doug until he retired in 2018.

Dean was a proud member of the Scranton community.  He enjoyed visiting the ladies at People’s Bank and the Scranton FEC office. In his younger days Dean served on the Scranton Community School Board and on the Scranton FEC board. Dean often could be found on early mornings having coffee with the guys at Casey’s or at The Congregate Meals for his 9AM coffee break. Funny thing though, Dean never truly enjoyed the taste of that coffee, so rarely ever had more than a single cup. Dean was a social man, and just wanted to be with the people he cared about.

Dean enjoyed his life long career as a farmer, but always made time for relaxation and entertainment. In the 80’s, the Gibson and Stewart families often met at Lake Panorama to go boating, where Dean was often found behind the wheel of the boat. Dean enjoyed traveling, but never believed in making a reservation. When you traveled with Dean you stopped when he was ready to stop or too tired to drive. Dean and family traveled coast to coast stopping at national parks and landmarks all along the way.  Besides travel, Dean also liked to watch the Iowa Hawkeye’s play football and basketball on TV, and rarely left home without his Hawkeye jacket during cooler weather. It was a great conversation starter, and Dean enjoyed talking to new people.

Dean, however, loved nothing more than spending time with his wife Linda, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed going out to eat and to movies almost every weekend with Linda. The couple also enjoyed spending time with one of his closest friends and Aunt (more like a sister) Marge Stewart at Prairie Meadows. Dean almost always bet the Quinella, “because every once in a while you win some real money.” Dean was an extremely proud dad and grandpa. He loved to show off the pictures he carried in his wallet of his grandchildren, and share stories about them. He had the best hugs of any Dad/Grandpa around and always made sure to give away his kisses at every opportunity.

Dean is survived by his wife Linda Gibson of Urbandale, IA and formerly of Scranton, IA; children: Mike (Jill) Gibson of Scranton, Lisa (Ed) Bates of Waukee, IA, Julie (Matt) Ireland of Adel, IA, Mark (Tracey) Gibson of Ankeny, IA, Angela Gibson and significant other Jeff Russell both of Des Moines, IA, and Jason (Angie) Gibson of Boone, IA; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother Donald “Chop” (Delores) Gibson of Scranton; sister-in-law Judy Gibson of Carroll, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son Bradley Gibson; his parents; infant brother William Douglas; and brother Dennis Gibson.
