David Michael Wiitala

David Michael Wiitala, age 72, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away at his home in Coon Rapids on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

A public visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 5 – 7 P.M.

David was born on September 15, 1954 in Minneapolis, MN, and he was the son of William and Mary Ann (Kuusisto) Wiitala. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended Patrick Henry High School. David worked as a chef in various locations most recently at Serenity Manor in Mora, MN. He also did catering. He was married to Kimberly Mandery and to this union a daughter Katie was born. David moved to Coon Rapids in July of 2019. David loved to cook and was a chef at heart. He enjoyed fishing and loved to spend time with his family.

David is survived by his daughter Katie Wiitala (Cory Onken) of Carroll; four grandchildren: Brayden Onken, Aria Maasen, Logan Maasen, and Owen Onken; two sisters: Betty McInnes (Don) of Hillsboro, ND, and Diane Santocono of Mansfield, TX; a brother Verl Wiitala (Kathy) of Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

David was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Ann Wiitala; and a brother-in-law Antonio Santocono.
