David Lewis Rich, age 62, of Glidden passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Swan Place in Carroll with his dog Herman and family members at his side.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday evening where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. Lector for the Mass will be his brother Jeff Rich. Gift bearers will be Molly and Matt Navratil. Music for the Mass will be by Mary Ross with the St. Elizabeth Seton Choir and Mike Bolton as soloist. Casket bearers will be Emily Rich, Sadie Rich, Ralph Bock, Dave McNamara, Tom Soyer, and Butch Gregory. Honorary casket bearers will be Connie Bock, Dan Longnecker, Duane Brant, Alan Anderson, and Raymond Snook. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to New Hope Village and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Born on August 25, 1952 in Carroll, he was the son of Lewis and Marion (Underberg) Rich. David grew up in Glidden and graduated from Glidden – Ralston High School in 1970. He attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City and Montana State University. He moved back to Glidden in 1980 and worked for West Central Coop. David lived on an acreage north of Ralston and later moved to the Rich family farm near Glidden. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to music, attending machinery auctions and working on tractors and cars. He was an avid dog lover and volunteered at New Hope Village allowing the residents to spend time with his dogs Fred and Herman.
David is survived by his mother Marion Rich of Glidden; two sisters Margaret Rich of Pella and Tracy Rich of Glidden; two brothers Kevin Rich (Laura) of Webster City and Jeff Rich (Susan) of Omaha; six nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends. David was preceded in death by his father Lewis Rich in 2010 and a nephew Franz.
