Milford

David A. Langel, age 63, of Milford, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the VA Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 11:00am at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home in Milford. A private burial will be held at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden with military honors conducted by the Glidden American Legion.

David was born on April 16, 1963, in Marengo, Iowa, to Merle and Theresa (Veit) Langel and was raised in the Carroll, Iowa area. He attended Kuemper Catholic School and graduated with the Class of 1981. Following high school, he continued his education at DMACC in Des Moines before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country for a few years. He continued his military career with the Army National Guard, serving in many locations throughout his 26 years of service.

Following his military retirement, David worked for Rosenboom, Crystal Tips, Stylecraft, and Hy-Vee. Throughout his life, he was known as a hardworking man, a dependable provider for his family, and a loyal friend to many.

On June 1st, 1985, David was united in marriage to Laurie Brus. Together they shared 41 years of marriage and were blessed with three children. Family was the center of David's life, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved.

David was a member of the Milford American Legion. He was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Bears. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, playing cards, riding his Harley-Davidson, and reading. His favorite author was Stephen King.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Laurie Langel of Milford, Iowa; daughter, Nicole (Brandon) Dennis of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Taylor Langel of Brookings, South Dakota; grandson, Oliver Dennis; brothers, Keith (Lynell) Langel of Milford, Iowa, and Paul (Kelli) Soyer of Des Moines, Iowa; many stepbrothers and stepsisters; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Theresa Langel; stepfather, Albert Soyer; grandmother, Evelyn Langel; son, Joseph Langel; and several beloved aunts and uncles who were undoubtedly there to welcome him home.
